About this generation
The fifth-generation Sportage launched for the 2023 model year (later in some markets), internally designated NQ5. It is built on Hyundai's N3 platform shared with the Hyundai Tucson NX4. The North-American Sportage NQ5 uses a slightly stretched wheelbase compared with the global model — Kia made the unusual choice of producing two different sized Sportages for different markets, with the North-American long-wheelbase variant adding rear legroom.
The North-American lineup uses the Smartstream G2.5 GDi 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four (base LX, EX), a hybrid variant with the 1.6-litre T-GDi turbocharged four (Hybrid LX, EX, SX), and a plug-in hybrid using the same drivetrain with a larger lithium-polymer battery. The X-Pro and X-Pro Prestige trims add off-road equipment including all-terrain tyres, raised ride height and skid plates. Production for North America runs at Kia Manufacturing Georgia in West Point.
